Abstract
Some of Avicolid and Murid rodents species are natural reservoirs of genus Hantavirus, the etiologic agents of Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS). Hantaviruses are widely distributed in rodent population not only in the endemic areas of
HFRS
but also in the non-endemic areas of world.
Hantaan virus, Seoul virus, Puumala virus, Prospect Hill virus and Leaky virus are members of genus Hantavirus and were isolated from lungs of Apodemus agrarius, Rattus norvegicus, Clethrionomys glareolus, Microtus pennsylvanicus and Mus
musculus,
respectively.
This experiment was designed to study the ecology of Hantavirus infection among the wild birds of korea rfrom 1991 to 1992.
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1. Amogn 597 wild birds of 16 species, 212 birds of 10 species were migratory birds and 367 birds of 6 species were resident birds of Korea.
2. Of total 579 wild bird of 16 species, 31 Paradoxomis webbiana, 7 Emberiza rustica, 1 Emberiza elegans and 1 Parus major were immunofluorescent antibody positive to Hantean virus, 3 Emberiza rustica were seropositive to Seoul virus and 7
Paradoxomis
webbiana were seropositive to Punmala virus.
3. Immunofluorescnt antibody titers to hantaviruses, ranging from 16 to 256, were found in sera from wild birds in Korea.
